HBONE
HBONE is the backbone network of NIIF IP, it is the computer network of the Hungarian Academic Community. HBONE delivers services to Hungarian universities and colleges, research development, libraries, public collections and also to several other public institutions. HBONE is a separate target (telecommunication) network. HBONE consists of the robust core, and also the regional centre routers connected to core routers (directly or indirectly).
The bandwidth of the HBONE main country and Budapest lines and also the international connections is 10 gigabit/s. The bandwidth of the other connections is characteristically 1 gigabit/s and there are also some lower speed connections in the backbone network. The backbone lines are mainly rented connections from telecommunication services, low fraction is working through connections owned by academic community institution (optical lines, microwave equipment). The country and international gigabit connections are built on the most up-to-date DWDM technology, which was first used to serve the demands of the HBONE by Hungarian telecommunication services in Hungary.
