Grid
NIIF offers PC-based grid facility for those customers who would like to execute scientific computational jobs requiring large amount of CPU resources.
ClusterGrid is basically built up of semi-dedicated worker nodes of PC labs located all around the country. Semi-dedication basically means that the labs are used in normal operation during the day, and are reloaded to
grid mode in the evening. So the effective execution time including nights and week-ends is roughly 50% of a week.
ClusterGrid can either execute large amount of checkpointed sequential jobs simultaneously (parameter study or array applications) or jobs parallelized by PVM libraries. Due to the underlying Condor limitations MPI and OpenMP is not supported yet.
To use the grid a NIIF Member Institution employee should use the following forms for registration: project registration form, user registration form. In case of a new theme project registration must precede user registrations. In case of joining to an already registered project, the project to join should be highlighted. Completed, signed registration should be sent to NIIF Institute, H-1132 Budapest, Victor Hugo u. 18-22 via courier.
To efficiently store job results, ClusterGrid also involves large volumes of cost effective storage spaces being accessed either from the grid clients or directly by using SCP client.
NIIF provides basic user support for those users who are unfamiliar with the grid environment at grid-tech@niif.hu.
