NIIF IPv6 project

The goal of the IPv6 deployment project of NIIF, was started in 2003 together regional centers, was to introduce IPv6 in the backbone network of NIIF and support IPv6 deployment in the interested institutions.

The backbone of NIIF to support IPv6 first empolyed 6PE, separate IPv6 VLANs and some tunneling. After appearing the IPv6 support in the Cisco 7600 series router we switched to dual-stack technology, that means we are using IPv6 routing next to IPv4 routing.

Joining and participating in the EU FP5 6NET project created a great impetus to IPv6 depolyment project of NIIF.

By the end of 2005, 95 % of the backbone of NIIF was able to provide IPv6 services as part of IP service including the management and monitoring.

The IPv6 depolyment project of NIIF was concluded in december 2005 and partially trasnformed to Campus IPv6 project, that might help increase usage if IPv6 in Campuses.
